Ayşe Sönmez

Ayşe Eylül Sönmez is a Turkish visual artist and academic whose practice, centered on watercolor and drawing, is deepened by theoretical reflection on contemporary visual culture.
She has built a career at the intersection of creation, teaching, and research. Holding a bachelor's degree in Fashion Design Education from Gazi University, she went on to complete a master's in Art Education, crowned by a notable thesis on the interactions between mass culture and the transformation of the artistic image.
Her work, regularly exhibited in Turkey and internationally (biennales, workshops, galleries), reached a milestone with her first solo exhibition at Istanbul's Kelimat Art Gallery in 2020. Her art is also featured in the reference publication "A Watercolour a Day" (Promopress, 2018). She is an active member of the International Watercolor Society (IWS).
Her commitment to education is profound. She has notably taught watercolor and charcoal drawing to international students within prestigious programs organized by the Presidency for Turks Abroad and Related Communities (YTB), where she also took on the role of curator for several student exhibitions.
Today, Ayşe Eylül Sönmez teaches fashion design while rigorously continuing her artistic production in her studio, where she persists in exploring and exhibiting the subtle dialogue between material, color, and social representations.
