Jen Sertel

Jen Sertel (Jennifer Schneller) left art school in the US and came to Turkey where she studied at Bogazici U. After a career as an English teacher, social service and peace educator in  Robert College and Bogazici University, she now devotes herself fulltime to her passion of painting.  

 

Jen takes inspiration from the Bosphorus  and the lands of Anatolia. She works with Cold Wax Medium ( basically beeswax) and mixes it with her oil paints to paint multiple translucent layers. Then like an archeologist she excavates them by scratching, scraping or throwing solvent to reveal what lies beneath.  This method allows her to show the rich mysteries of this land she loves.  Jen has exhibited both in Turkey and internationally.
